Tax and Legal Committee represented Amcham at the round table discussions organized by Ministry of Economy. Round table was headed by Deputy Minister of Economy, Mr. Sergiu Ciobanu, and was primarily focused on the matters related to import of production equipment free of import duties.It is worthwhile mentioning that currently exemption from VAT and customs duty is possible in case the production equpment or other fixed assets are introduced in the statutory capital. Still, this opportunity is problematic, since the procedure of increasing the statutory capital is burdensome and generally it is difficult to avail of this opportunity, taking into consideration potential costs, time constraints, etc. This is the reason why Ministry of Economy envisages implementing other procedure to import production equipment free of import duties.
