American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova met with businessmen from Transnistria

Tiraspol-CHISINAU, March 23, 2010. American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova (AmCham Moldova) for the first time visited Transnistria. The event took place on March 18, being organized at the initiative of Lions Club Tiraspol.

The collaboration between AmCham Moldova and Lions Club Tiraspol began with the launch of the AmCham Moldova "Products of Moldova” project, thus, some companies belonging to the Nistru left side have been included in the catalogue launched earlier this year. Subsequently, AmCham was invited to attend the Lions Club Member Meeting, which took place in Tiraspol. In regards to this, both AmCham Moldova members and Lions Club members had the opportunity to get acknowledged with the activities, as well as with the principles and values of these two associations.

"We want to promote AmCham Moldova values also on the left side of Nistru, in particular by launching a dialogue with Transnistrian companies which meet the criteria for „Products of Moldova” project. We are confident that the meeting held on the Lions Club Tiraspol initiative has developed a sustained and productive dialogue between AmCham Moldova and the business environment in Transnistria", stated Mila Malairau, the executive director of AmCham Moldova.

The meeting was attended by the President of Lions Club Tiraspol, the mayor of Tiraspol, the vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Transnistria and other members of the Lions Club. AmCham had representatives from British American Tobacco Moldova, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova, CNFA, Foto Rapid, Japan Tobacco International Moldova, Millennium Group, Moldcell, Moldova Agroindbank, Natur Bravo, Sun Communications, Vernon David.

Lions Club is one of the main charity and service NGOs in Transnistria, being launched in 2002 at Tiraspol. Later, branches were opened in other cities in the region - Dubossary, Bender, Rybnitsa. Lions Club Organization unites business people, politicians, government and local authorities and people of culture. Among the organization\'s charitable projects is the renovation of the Child Republican Center in Tiraspol, the offer of help to disabled people, to orphanages, the opening of the Veterans’ House in Tiraspol.
